I was welding some fillet welds on a winch mount. Hardly ever Tig...still new to it.Thought I would back-hand for a moment just to make the welds look more uniform. Found some "craters" and used this technique and wondered if there was such thing as "back-hand w/ tig" I believe I just found it easier to go cc being left handed then got carried away.....Like mentioned earlier only for filling in the craters , but I dont think there is such a use....right? weld it like you own it
Reply:Fore hand is the prefered way to tig and you will find this out after a lot of pratice. Let us know, when you find out the correct way, for you.SMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases. There all here. :
Reply:The craters and funk is from going away from your gas rather than twards it..If in "retreat" mode go slower or give yourself 10 more cfm.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Yeah I knowOk be gentle..... here was what I was doing mild steel just basically goofing off ...just was tired of GMAWPretty much a fillet weld at a 45 degree..... .25" mild . weld it like you own it
Reply:what's the 'feeder trick while watching TV'...? ( or was that a TIG class specific item..? )
Reply:Not bad. All I would say at this point it looks just a little cold. It does not look like the puddle wetted out. This could be from poor gas coverage. The main reason you push a TIG is to ensure the shield gas floods the area to be welded and keep out oxegen. Just keep practicing and try to push if you can it does help. Steel Thunder Welding LLC.
