Hi,just jioned the forum as I am now attempting to do some welding on my 73 jeep.If you can't get the grinder in there to clean up the metal is there a solvent which may work? Also. when I attach the grounding clamp I'm assuming it should be as near the spot I'm welding and it should have a good bite into the metal. I didn't want to get a shock when I'm under the jeep.I'm using a 110 MIG with the flux wire (thats what I'll call it)Any cautionary or helpful hints appreciated.
Reply:Well there's always Jasco Paint Remover sold at hardware stores. After that I would take a spray bottle w/ water and try to remove the adhesive/remover itself. The only problem would be if you cant get a grinder in there the stuff 'sheets' off but is very sticky...It could be more trouble than it's worth.Other than that a little sandpaper on your fingers may work or even a small dremel moto tool type thing?
Reply:Needle scaler works too for cleaning up the metalYou're right on the ground clamp issue. Not usually a shock hazzard unless you grab the ground lead and electrode at the same time with bare hands while the machine trigger is pulled.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

I'm a newbie myself - both to welding and Welding web.I don't have any specific advice to your questions other than to say that registering and posting here is probably the best decision a noob can make. Great advice and lots of patient experience available here!Good luck! Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away. Reply:A '73 Jeep is pretty basic, doesn't have any computer/electronics (unless added later by the owner). Should be no problem welding on it.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
