I'm looking into attending a private welding school in the near future. One of those schools that gets you in 40 hours a week training and out in 5-7 months with master welders cert geared towards pipeline or structural welding with job placement assistance.Curious if anyone has heard any good or bad about Missouri welding institute and how it would compare to other private schools. Any information would be appreciated thank you
Reply:I have not heard anything specific about MWI.  I know Teachout, Inc in Sturgis, SD 605-490-2427 has a similar program to what you have described.  Also, Western Dakota Tech offers an AA program that is intensively hands on and cert. centered in partnership with the South Dakota School of Mines.A long way from Missouri, but if you are thinking about pipe and structures, you had better be prepared to travel.  Good luck.
Reply:What code is it that gives a MASTER welder cert?
Reply:i went to tulsa pipe welding school in tulsa oklahoma 20 years ago.  when i went they had retired  local 798 pipe welders teaching. 798 built the alaskan pipe line.  i was there five months, and went to work pipe welding when i finished there program.
Reply:Check out Hobart in Troy Ohio, my company hires alot of students from there. Get a tig and stick cert in pipe and they will give u a job usually starting out about $18.00/hr or so with $2.00/$4.00 per hr raises every 6 months.http://www.united-gs.com/
Reply:Can't speak about MWI from personal experience.  I'm a student at Hobart's welding school in Troy, OH.  I'm 3/4 of the way through their 9 month structural and pipe welding program.  By and large, I am extremely happy with the education I've received.  I consider the tuition to be money well-spent, and I'm confident about finding work when I'm done at the end of March.I've also heard extremely good things about the welding school in Tulsa, and wouldn't hesitate to apply there if I had to do it over again. Reply:All I can tell you about them is first, Lincoln had The Tulsa School of Welding and the 798 Union apprenticship program test Excalibur before it was introduced to the market, second I have worked with several Tulsa grads and they all knew their stuff. Don't think you can get a master welder cert anywhere, and if you could it would take a lot longer than 6-7 months. I've been at this a long time and don't consider myself a master, can't even tell you the difference between 1G through 5G. All I've ever tested was 6G and it covers all the rest. If you can't do that one you aren't a welder yet. Tulsa and 798 don't let you go until you can.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
