718 Aluminum rods

I'm new to Tig and a friend gave me 20 lbs of 718 rod to practice with.  Best I can find out is that it is similar to 4047, so would it be ok to use were 4043 would be used.  Just learning and I don't want to make things harder than they have to be by using the wrong filler.

Reply:I suggest  that    ALL of you beginners go to a nearby welding supply store & buy a handbook that the manufacturers publish. it lists their products ,such as the different alloys , rods , wires ,etc.  The sizes available , the lengths , proper weld parameters, amps to use , strength , ALL the necessary info.  They only cost maybe a few dollars . If you are really interested , YOU won't mind investing a few dollars .  If you can't afford that, you're not really interested in welding .[SIZE="5"Yardbird"
Reply:Go1lum: YOu are right and wrongly mistaken,  http://www.bellmanmelcor.com/Alum.htm says it is an aluminum alloy and Part# HA 0071850 on Airgas.com lists it as a trade mark number with ER4047; check it out.  Now there is a 718 iconel which is different than 718 aluminum.  ROY BOY, having a bad day?  Go kick your dog!  First, I got a book, even printed FREE stuff of the internet, welding supply doesn't have handbooks that the manufactures publish and I doubt yours covers 718 aluminum rods, my book didn't.  Two, if you don't want to answer the question go to another thread and keep your SUGGESTIONS.  Third, If you want to talk to ALL the beginners start your own thread.  I didn't say I was a beginner, I said I was new to TIG.  Finally, Internet works just fine and has more information than your book.  Did you pay too much for a book and that's why a few dollars a lot to do with being interested in welding.  Guess I'll just enjoy reading threads and not have to deal with people like you.  By the way, you never answerd the question.  Like you, just venting!!
