I have a lincoln power mig 180 and would like to buy the 100SG spoolgun for it but I have not welded aluminum with a mig before and was wondering if this would be worth the money (About $180.00 bucks). I can get lots of scrape aluminum free and was wondering if this would be capable of making nice welds or if all it would do is stick the stuff together. The thickness of the aluminum I would be welding would be no thicker than .200 thick.
Reply:The 100sg is ok. It is not a 250 amp spool gun and it does have its limitations. I have one and it does its job......nothing spectacular. Get ya a bottle of Ar, a stainless brush and go to town. .250" material is pretty thick for it though.....you may have to pre-heat.Yeah, yeah, I know you are a weldor too. But, are you a good one?
Reply:I have one. I did some .25 this weekend. It is above the max recommended. I only tried it when I got it, then didn't used until this passed saturday. So, it performed well for me, though I don't know about the performance over time.I operated it off a honda 5000, 4500peak. generator. No problem.
Reply:Thats good to hear, thanks guys I will be buying one then. |
