We had a blast.  There were 4 of us, 2 machines running most of the day.  We did tig on carbon steel, Tig on aluminum in all positions, Lots of stick, mig, pulsed spray mig of course, Plasma cutting, and Oxy torch welding.  I am glad there were not too many because it gave me more time to work with each one.  I also almost finished the grill.  2 had never run stick, 3 had never welded with an oxy torch, one had not tigged, 2 never used a plasma, or mig.First, we started on some rusty plate that couldn't even be cleaned up with a grinder, so I got out a piece of 1/2" and some fresh out of the oven 1/8" 7018 at 140 amps.  I THINK this was Ryan's (G1K here)This is Eddy's first time TIGSome Oxy Torch welding with R45 rodAnd My son Mig welding the 3/8" round stock for the grate.Last edited by David R; 03-22-2008 at 08:04 PM.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Eddie who had never run a mig before started with the SP100, then the V350.Ryan using the arcmaster 185 on aluminum.  We proved again that 185 amps is just barely enough to weld big pieces of 1/4" aluminum.  We used pointed red and gold tungsten.  The gold seemed to keep a better tip.The grill.  I did the inside fillet in the back which is 24" in 30 seconds with .030 wire @ 1,000 ipm in pulsed spray mode.  92/8 gas.Guess who the grill is for?  This is Ryan's handy work.  He drew the letters and tigged it with stainless.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:let's try that with out the two copies of pictures...1. a root pass2. a stitch pass (only partial at the top)  .   never mind the other weld, no filler on part and it cracked upon cooling3.
