How long to replace a bucket lip?

I have a 36" wide excavator bucket on a 16 metric ton machine. The bucket lip sheered off on tooth adaptor and the lip ic cracked. I need to have an idea how long or how much it would cost to replace it . The bucket lip is 14" x 36" x 1 1/4" and has 5 tooth adaptors on it need to cut off the old one and weld in new one and 5 adaptors the bucket lip is made of AR400
Reply:Well, That is gonna vary depending on your skill level, process you use, etc...  As far as just time involved to complete the job I would say 8-10 hrs without actually seeing the bucket.  The 1 1/4" AR400 is gonna be a pretty pricey piece as well.  I priced a sheet of 1/2" AR400 yesterday, and it was around $30 per square foot.  I would guess 1 1/4" AR400 would be $300 or more for the plate alone.  If you could post a pic it would be helpful as it is tough to quote a job like that without actually seeing it.  Atleast for me it is.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:I need to see a pic or two. Can't really tell you anything without one. And even then I can only tell you how long it would take me. Like DSW said you may not have to do all of that unless it is what the customer wants. Most of mine don't want anymore done than necessary.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
Reply:I would guess a whole day IF you have an arcair and a way to move the bucket around.  Maybe a day and a half, I don't know your skills.  Is the new edge pre made?Good time to get out the propane weed burner for preheat.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:If your blowing the entire old lip off, and putting on all new shanks, it is a day job give or take a few hours. Burn the old lip off, prep said bucket and new lip, weld, weld, weld, add shanks, and pin on new teeth. Like everyone else said, most of the time you just fix the crack, and replace with new and good shank. A perfect job for an Arcair, and a wire feeder.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:I vote replace the edge.  It will be a nice job and good $.  You will have no doubt it was a good repair.  The old one looks worn pretty good. Nice catch.DavidEdit, It took a good operator to break that tooth.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:I was the operator running the machine. I’m always working in rock. I am looking to have someone do the job for me I can do some welding but I think this would be a pretty big job for me or a good learning experience. I have a bobcat 250 and was looking to get a wire feeder for it. I called two different local guys who have welding shops misc steel and railing work. When I talked to them I did not fell very confident that they new how to do this kind of work. I am located in Northern NJ if you guys know someone who can do this type of work and how long it should take? The parts are $712.00 for the AR400 base edge and the 5 adaptors are $240.00 so almost a $1,000 in parts with no labor.

Reply:I would guess at over two day's to do that repair and a lot of gas preheating.  Bugger.I'd rather be hunting........USE ENOUGH HEAT.......Drifting around Aussie welding more pipe up, for something different.....wanting to get home.
