And please correct me if I'm wrong about the following.Subject: OVER LAPPED SHEETMETAL1. Cut and install into location (front floor pan)2. Spray: Weld Thru Primer.3. Tack weld floor pan.4. Finish welding floor pan.5. Cover welds with: Seam Sealer.DONE.Would you guys do it that way? Please suggest better ways of doing it if there is one please. Thanks GuysGOD BLESS SCHOONER
Reply:I wouldn't weld through primer. Clean metal for good welds.Sure, overlap and seal.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:First time restoration and for personal enjoyment lap welds will do. For show cars or to sell for big bucks exact fitment consistent 1/32-1/16 gaps and butt welds, a bunch of short stitch welds, and grind with a flap wheel takes the cake. Practice this on junk first.
Reply:After tacking, A LOT of short welds. 1" max. Jump around a LOT. Do NOT try to fill a separating joint with weld. Stop, hammer/dolly back to touching, tack. I saw a video last year replacing the pans and trunk in an oldie. Step by step. They drilled holes in places and plug welded. But I don't remember why. If I remember, it was done by Hot Rod Magazine, not sure. Awesome information, find one if you can.9-11-2001......We Will Never ForgetRetired desk jockey. Hobby weldor with a little training.
