Hey everyone, this is my first post. I have a Miller XMT 304 CC machine, not CC/CV. I want to use it for wire feeder in my shop and be able to use it in the field with my Prince MK Cobra spool gun. I can't get any straight, solid answers any where. I'm sure some you know how to do this. Thanks
Reply:You said it, its not CV.  It would be a bitch to run MIG or constant voltage type welding with it. David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:As David R said.  Your CC machine will stick and maybe TIG if you have the ability to hook up a foot pedal or other rheostat, but MIG is probably out of the question.ScottMiller XMT 350 CC/CV w/gas solenoid opt.Miller S-22A wirefeederBernard 400A "Q" gunMiller Spoolmatic 30A / WC-24C-K 200A torch/gas lensWeldcraft WC-18 watercooled torchHypertherm Powermax 30Victor O/A
Reply:Can you mig with a XMT304-CC, yes, will it be like you had a CV machine, no. Both the Lincoln LN-25, the Miller 8VS and 12VS and other feeders allow mig and fluxcore welding with a CC machine, you have to read the product sheets very carefully, both Miller and Lincoln, say the operation is for non-critical welds only, but depending on what or how you are going to be using it, you can mig weld with a CC machine. Its it economically viable?, or would it be cheaper to buy a 250-350 stand alone mig welder? Thats for you to deside.Jack
Reply:Thanks for the info guys. Economics play a HUGE role. I have another option, but I need info on the machine. I'm going to post pictures of machine in another post.
Reply:It will run a voltage sensing feeder. I have used both my LN-25 and my Hefty off of a cc Lincoln engine drive. The biggest difference I have seen between it and using them with my xmt304 cc/cv and cc/cv Lincoln is that use with the cc machine results in a lot more spatter. I in fact used the hefty with the cc Lincoln and NR211MP to put sidewalls and a swinging door on a 48 foot cylinder (as in O/A cylinders) trailer. I finished this job 5 months ago and the trailer has been in constant use since hauling engine blocks, transmissions and crushed cars. None of the welds have failed. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
