Hello everyone...I am out of ideas and I need help. I work shutdowns and turnarounds as a boilermaker/foreman and I am gone 8 to 10 months a year earning a living. I can't quit my job to goto school to be a certified welder. But I can't find anyone who will work around my scheadule either. They all want you to go full time or not at all. I am willing to pay out of my own pocket for this training. It will be the differince between 80k and 140k a year. What should I do...Where should I go?????? I just need to learn how to pass a 3 position plat test with E7018 rod and/or TIG with 035 rod. Preferably both and one day on thick wall pipe.
Reply:You might contact New England School of Metalwork which offers abreviated classes, some as short as one day.-MondoMember, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.
Reply:You could contact your local community college. Talk to the prof and ask if he consults. I know when I was in WE school, my prof consulted on the side. You could take one class also for a few hundred dollars. Do it as an audit so there is no grade or homework and make sure there is a lab. Get the instructor to tutor you for the hands on lab. It would be worth it even at a few hundred dollars if it really would incrase your income by $60K! |
