I am wondering what brand of grinding wheel every one is using, I have used a Metabo wheel before on my 4.5 inch and it worked out great and lasted a long time but every China brand one has lasted less than a day. When I called my supplier and asked what he suggested for a fast and heavy material removal wheel he told me to get a Premier Red Zirconia snagging cup for my 9 inch but I have yet to get that since it's around $70 before S&H. So what are your thoughts on good long lasting wheels and snagging cups?

Reply:I'm with Dave P. on the "what works for you" statement. Everybody has their own priorites. For some cost is number one, others work done in as short a time frame as possible is tops.Lately I've been using the Sait in 5". Kinda pricey for somebody on a tight budget but they move metal. Norton is okay. It seemed to me that Norton kind of varied from batch to batch.  A lot of them are 'okay'. I've still got some Nortons in the drawer I think I'll rotate in pretty soon. Use them down a bit. I never found a HF type cheepo that was even close to okay my book. Some used to be down right dangerous but it could be they are better now. I haven't bought one in years.
Reply:Sait, 4 1/2" mainly.
Reply:I rarely use hard wheels anymore, I've been using 40 grit Walter flap discs, and had remarkable luck with them, then the cost went up to about $8.50/ea, lately have switched to the 40 grit flap wheels made by or for Metabo, a relatively new product for them, they are great, about $4.50/ea. The best luck with a cutting wheel, I've had is the 4 1/2" Walter x .045" zipwheel, they have spiral on the face to pull dust away, cut great, are long lasting and are about $2.10/ea.jack
Reply:i bought a stack of those cheap wheels at HF and was so happy when the last one was gone.  (It wasn't long)  One good wheel will last longer and cut better than a dozen cheap wheels.
Reply:Oh so true Willie.
Reply:walter, sait, and norton are all pretty good
Reply:I got stuck with some dewalt 4 1/2s and thought oh no, but I was pleasantly surprised. I've used Norton and SAIT for many years and the dewalt is comparable. I bought a HF 9" grinder 2 years ago because I was in a bind and broke too. Well I grabbed a pack of 9" disks as well and figured maybe they would last as long as the grinder, heheh. The disks last forever and cut well (maybe they are Russian instead of Chinese like the chop saw blades are now). The grinder sounds just like my two ancient Rockwells and I am starting to wonder if it just might last as long as they have. I was just hoping it would last long enough to get through the job.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
Reply:Hi there Pherd i think it's spelt? german stuff great for sheetmetal stainless etc,and mirka for sanding gear,End result is you usually get what you pay for.Have done comparative cuts with various wheels and these always come out on top.
