Proud new owner of a Miller Passport Plus. Question - Rather than "timing" duty cycle, could I simply utilize the "Fan on Demand" as my guide to welding time:Basic strategy - Fan off = weld timeFan on = wait timePlease let me know what you think ?Thanks
Reply:Were it me, I'd still use the duty cycle method. The fan is based on temperature (usually), so if it's just naturally hot that day, the fan will come on from the get-go. I have a Dynasty, it does the same thing.
Reply:I have had a passport for almost three years now.I think it is an awsome machine.I still use the duty cycle, for the same reason as previously mentioned ambient temperature. My fan has come on almost immediately at 38 degrees celcius that is approx. 90 degrees F.Nobody moves nobody gets hurt(safety first)millematic passportmiller 375 plasmacutter
Reply:I don't have a passport but do have an xmt304 with fan on demand. Forget about the fan as a guide. Summer or winter I have had the fan come on with the machine just sitting and me not welding. It drives my partner nuts because it will come on while I am welding and shut down with me never stopping. Go with duty cycle. Even if the fan is on and you exceed the duty cycle you can fry your machine. If you shut down every time the fan comes on and you haven't bumped the duty cycle you are just wasting your time. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship.
