I amlooking to weld 16ga aluminum. I was told this would be a good machine, true false???What is the amp rating from what to 200??I was also told i would need a spoolgun Corect???
Reply:I need to buy a used machine (beacuse of $) so i am looking for options, (to look for)Will a sycrowave 200 work to mig aluminum with a spool gun? I know that the sycro goes down to 5 amps so welding thin stuff is possible.I keep going back to mig because that is what i have been doing for awhile, (i like to make stuff, i have no schooling in it i just do it). I have heard that tig is hard to get good at and i should just go with what i have done (mig)Any thoughts would be helpful....
Reply:If you want to mig aluminum, get the Millermatic and spool gun, at least check prices for them. The Synchrowave 200 would be capable of aluminum welding by itself, I never heard of anyone running a spool gun from a tig machine. You could check prices out for a tig welder and water cooler if interested, though.City of L.A. Reply:I've never had much luck doing thin alum with my spoolgun, but most items were a bit odd so it was tough to move the gun fast enough. The synchro 200 will not do mig only tig but will do the 16g no problem as long as you can tig alum. (not the easiest to learn but doable).My guess is with the MM200 and a spool gun it may be do able if you can move the gun along at a good pace. My MM185 with spool gun does 1/8-3/16 with no problems but you have to max the power out.What are you trying to do? Maybe some one can make a suggestion on what they use to do what you are trying.
