Hi,I know theres  another thread out like this one but i am more interested in a hood UNDER $100.00   All my experience was in school using the schools hoods, now that im starting my apprenticeship, i need a hood of my own.Requirements:Wont breakUnder $100.00stops my eyes from catching firedoesn't look like something i would wear on Halloween.Matthttp://www.aloumac.ca/
Reply:Theres a lot of sites and places to buy, just google or ask jeeves. If u want a regular nice one get a jackson. For under 30 it has the big view and to stop the burning get a shade 11 or 12. You can get stickers or draw stuff on it.
Reply:"Won't break" is a hard one. I use a Huntsman slide front and also a Harbor Freight Auto Hood. They both cost the same. There are tons of choices..Have a nice dayhttp://www.weldingdata.com/
Reply:GoogleHoods for as little as ten bucks. There are tons of options. Get a simple manual hood. Later you can upgrade to anything you like.City of L.A. Iron is taken from the earth, and copper is smelted from ore."Job 28:1,2Lincoln, Miller, Victor & ISV BibleDanny
Reply:you think this will suffice?http://cgi.ebay.ca/NEW-WELDING-MASK-...QQcmdZViewItemshould i be looking for something cheaper?http://www.aloumac.ca/
Reply:or would this be better,http://store.weldingdepot.com/cgi/we...ml?id=UPUAnFYcits only shade 10 though...hmmhttp://www.aloumac.ca/
Reply:Get the Jackson, you can buy another lens (11 or 12) from your LWD.  The Jackson has the big lens, so for a newby apprentice you've got a wider field of view.  You'll note that the ebay helmet, despite the wide front window, is taken up 1/2 way by the solar panel that charges the battery.  You're left with a very small window.Give the shade 10 a try, it's pretty much all I use.  If you're going to get into some really high amperages or carbon arc stuff, you'll need to go to the 12, but use the lightest shade you can handle such that at the end of the day your eyes don't feel fatigued.I r 2 a perfessional
Reply:so if im welding with a 10 shade and by the end of the day my eyes feel fine, then Im not incurring any damage to my eyes rite?http://www.aloumac.ca/
Reply:I have a Speedglas and a Harbor Freight auto; I know I'm weird but I use the Harbor Freight one every time. I think it's on sale for $50.

Reply:I have a miller elite and a couple harbor freight ones. The harbor freight ones have never let me down yet and work great. They run about 50.00 - 60.00 dollars on sale. They are all adjustable filters from 9 - 13 so you will be covered.Miller DVI2Lincoln Precision Tig 225Thermodynamics Cutmaster 38Everything else needed.
Reply:Correct, you cannot do any damage to your eyes wearing a shade 10 lens.  What happens is that, with higher amperage, even though the shade 10 protects you from the near and far UV and the blue light, the brightness can make your eyes feel tired at the end of the day.  With a shade 12, you're probably never get tired eyes, but you're gonna have issues with seeing the puddle well on lower amperage welds. It's a comfort thing, ask 5 welders which is the correct shade and you'll get 7 different answers.OSHA has a table of recommended shades in 10CFR1910.252(b)(2)(ii)(H)  (OSHA uses too many parentheses)  Many people rely on this table as the bible, but OSHA itself notes: "These recommendations may be varied to suit the individuals needs"Some welders wear safety glasses under their hood to help protect against UV, but since your filter plate and the plastic cover plate both must meet the ANSI Z87 standard, all you're doing in that case is adding a third layer of redundant protection.I r 2 a perfessional
Reply:im gonna get the Jackson® HaloX Welding Helmet . cheap, big, reccomended.thanks for the helpmatthttp://www.aloumac.ca/
Reply:Don't get the Halo get the Shadow. Well if all you do is flat the Halo is ok, but any other position is gonna result in fireballs on the face and down the collar. I speak from experience, lol.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
Reply:so this one..http://store.weldingdepot.com/cgi/we...ml?id=aY9bK8HUbut it says its like double the weight of the halo.. is that very noticeable? (13.5oz)http://www.aloumac.ca/
Reply:I have a bad neck (not caused by a welding hood but a kevlar helmet) and some days wearing a hood results in migraines if it is too heavy. The shadow was fine until I put my Boss cartridge in it. Somedays I wake up with them so it's not always the hoods fault. The Miller I use now weighs 18 ounces and I have yet to suffer a welding hood induced migraine, lol. It's up to you, but fireballs hurt. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
