I was wondering if anyone out there who has a 230V machine similar to my lincoln tried welding aluminum? If so, what have you found to be the best set-up? I would like to get the spoolgun kit but the cost is requiring some saving time. Can i just change the drive rolls and liner and push 4043 & 5356 without too much birdnesting? Thanks in advance.
Reply:Personally I never had any luck getting alum to feed thru my standard gun. I can not remember which, but either 4340 or 5356 is very soft and difficult in the extreme to push.Alum will require very high power and high wire speeds. You might get it to work if you keep the liner/gun straight with minimal bends. If the wire binds at all, even for an instant, you'll end up with a birds nest or burn back into the tip before you will blink.I'd get some tranqilizers and BP meds. I think you'll find this to be very frustrating unfortunately.
Reply:I have the power mig 255 and had no luck at all using the regular gun and teflon liner and proper rolls. I picked up a push/pull gun for it and it works very well. If you don't plan on using it to earn alot of money than go with a spool gun, they are fine once you get it set up and are used to it.RegardsEr70s-2 |
