Hi, all. This weekend I going to haul in all my scrap for the year.  Free money..... For a new toy.I'am thinking plasma cutter.       I would like to know what kind you have or used.or if you had to do over what would you get?  I look at them a few years back ,but so much has change . I looking for something to cut 3/8 steel and aluminum.  Size is not a factor big or small I don't plan on takeing it out of the shop.  I live near the twin citys in minnesota so a dealer of any brand should be easy to find.  I would like to stay away from lincolns, had bad luck with my lincoln 185 p tig.  thanks Daye
Reply:i got my miller 375 from cyberweld it works great
Reply:ed mac, I check that 375 on cyberweld . Looks nice but dosen't say anything about aluminum.  What kind accessories should i get. Thanks daye
Reply:Really the new Thermal Dynamics machines are great. Might take a lot more power then you think to cut 3/8 aluminum cleanly. Esab has two new units out with a new torch design. Esab's always cut aluminum very well for their given output. Better then the Thermal machines I have owned.
Reply:I would recommend Toll and Minneapolis Oxygen Supply (for local suppliers), I have got excellent service from both (as for local places to buy from). Otherwise Cyberweld, Arc-Zone, and IOS for online vendors. My personal recommendation would be a Hypertherm, I just picked up one of the Hypertherm Power Max 30's because I wanted something small and portable, it will cut 3/8 steel but not aluminum, so you might want to look at the powermax 600 for cutting 3/8 aluminum. It would not cut it very fast but should be somewhere around a foot a minute and would be faster in thinner stuff. If you must cut it fast then a powermax 1000 should do it. BTW - Toll sells Miller and Thermal dynamics and MOS sells Miller and Hypertherm and always has consumables for the Hypetherms in stock. -DanOwnerDW Metalworks LLCMiller Trailblazer 302Miller 8RC FeederMiller Passport PlusMiller Dynasty 200 DX W/Coolmate 1Hobart Handler 135Hypertherm PowerMAX 30Smith O/A Torch SetPlus much much more
Reply:i went with the 375 because i needed one with 115 & 230i got the consumable kit, roller guide and leather torch cover with itif i wanted one with just 230v i might go with the thermal dynamics 52
Reply:I have never had a problem with my Thermal. It is a few years old, but runs perfect. The new Thermals have a lot of platic, but have a great power output per LB. If you are careful with your tools, get a new thermal, if it will be at jobsites, look for a used one. I have played with Hypertherm's but never owned one, they where nice, but I am happy with mine. But most important buy what you can get consumables from close by, preferably a supplyer that is open on Saturdays. ( I plan and plan, but always run out when it comes to weekend jobs)
Reply:I would look at the thermal dynamic's or Hypertherm's. They are the best plasmas going as far as I am concern. I have a TD cutmaster 38 I bought over a year and a half ago and it works perfect. I bought it over the hypo because the cutting capacity was a bit more and the cunsumables were half the price. You should always think about the running cost of these machines. I did try out a new Hypo unit that was inverter base, I think it was a 90. It was an awesome plasma cutter. Small light weight unit. My local dealer was telling me that some customers of his were cutting up a 3/4 inch with it to. It was a pushing the machine to the max but doing the job. Mind you it could do it for very long cuts.Hope this helpsMiller DVI2Lincoln Precision Tig 225Thermodynamics Cutmaster 38Everything else needed.
Reply:62 pounds- 1/3 phase-120 amps output- 60 amp drag the tip cutting. Tell me what machine is even close??? I have a 151 and really like it. (100 amps output/ single phase input)http://store.cyberweld.com/thdyplcucu15.html
Reply:Take a look at the Hypertherm line. Hypertherm works hard to design efficient units....you can compare an 80 Amp Hypertherm Powermax1250 (that will run on any voltage from 190 to 600, single or three phase) to most other 100 Amp units as far as cut speed and thickness capacity goes. Hypertherm uses "coaxial jet technology" in their nozzle/shield design that effectively provides more cutting power with less input power. Also...the Powermax units can compensate for line voltage fluctuations (such as operating on a generator). The Powermax 600 has been replaced by the new Powermax45 system.   http://www.hypertherm.com/en/Product...wermax1250.jspJim Colt
Reply:Even though you don't want to hear it I like my Procut 55 better than any plasma I have used and 3/8s steel isn't even a challenge for it. I've run it off of the power lines, an Eagle 10,000 and a Ranger 275 with no problems. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
Reply:Hypertherm 1000 is my first choice, two years of everyday service (5 days a week) and still going strong.
Reply:I have a Thermal Dynamics Cut master 51 that is a VERY good machine.Tim Beeker.
