So today I fired up my new Victor kit and the cutting nozzle is 0-3-101I'm not sure if that means size 0 or 3. Anyway my practice cut on 11ga sheet was not pretty. The kerf rewelded itsself behind the torch as I cut along. And the work piece ended up even stronger than when I tried to cut it!   lolI set the torch up per the included booklet. Any comments from the pros? I'm thinking I don't have the correct tip for that piece.By the way I'm a total novice with a torch.RyanLincoln PowerMig 180cVictor O/ABandaids and aspirinI don't know what I don't know!?
Reply:Try something thicker......Thin sheet takes the right size tip, probably a 0, and the right travel speed.  On the thin stuff, I tilt the torch forward.  It helps with speed and cuts a wider kerf.11 ga is 1/8", not exactly thin.  You should be able to get a nice smooth cut.  What is your o2 set at?DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I had the o2 set at 25-30. I will try the tilt tomorrow. So what size is 0-3-101 anyway?  0 or 3?Lincoln PowerMig 180cVictor O/ABandaids and aspirinI don't know what I don't know!?

Reply:I believe that is a size "0" tip.  If the seam is fusing back together I would suggest try moving a bit faster or turn your torch down a bit.  Most of the people I see using a torch tend to move to slow or cut with the torch set too high.  Some pics would help in telling your problems.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:For Victor:0-3-101 is a size 0 tip, for a medium sized torch, for oxy-acetylene.2-1-101 is a size 2 tip for a large size torch, for oxy-acetylene.You might want a 00, or 000 sized tip, but the 0 should work.
Reply:All Good replies. I will try some things and see how it goes.Lincoln PowerMig 180cVictor O/ABandaids and aspirinI don't know what I don't know!?
Reply:When you're set up with a tip for cutting heavy material and want to cut a thin section without changing the torch tip, you can lean the torch so that the flame is leading on a heavy angle.Angling the torch puts less heat in the work and moves your cutting jet to lead the cut, alowing faster torch travel, and a just-finished cut that cools faster.Good Luck
Reply:Tip size is  0, tip series is 3, and 101 means it runs on acetylene.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:It will take some practice but lay your torch where it is about a 20-25 degree angle to your metal. As soon as you start your cut get it about 2" in front of the tip and keep your travel speed where the cut stays out in front of the torch. That way you aren't melting any metal beside the cut and there is nothing to run in behind you. An 0 tip is a little big for 1/8" plate for me and I use a 00. The 00 preheats less metal, makes a narrower cut and uses less A/O. 30# on O sound OK. After a little practice you will leave hardly any slag on the bottom of the cut. You will get less warping because you are putting less heat in the metal too.
Reply:Yeah I tried some more passes today.I am cutting but I am heating way too much metal. The tip is too big me thinks. I went to airgas in search of more tips but they are closed on the weekends. Waiting for monday. Thanks guys.Lincoln PowerMig 180cVictor O/ABandaids and aspirinI don't know what I don't know!?
Reply:I'm embarrasses to say I was doing it wrong all along.  I was using the wrong o2 valve!!!Very sorry for the trouble gents. But man what a nice cut it makes now. Like a hot knife thru butta!!!Lincoln PowerMig 180cVictor O/ABandaids and aspirinI don't know what I don't know!?
