I have a lincoln Pro Mig 180 and it has a accessory you can buy called a spot timer kit.Can anyone give me an example of when this would be handy to have.
Reply:Nope.....David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I don't know that model but I have an older MillerMatic 200 with the Spot/Pulse option which allows repeatable one-sided spot welds in sheet metal. Using a different nozzle with cut-outs, the gun is pressed against the metal and the trigger pulled; the timer determines how long the arc stays on. The other parameters are set as usual. I have found it useful, but for only occasional 'spotwelding', think careful trigger control might be good enough, depending on cost.I have used it for such things as welding the full-length hinge onto the new case I built for that same machine, as the unit was badly abused when I got it. It can also be used for plug welds in thicker materials; I've done that too but can't remember when or where.Last edited by Oldiron2; 08-27-2008 at 08:01 PM.Reason: Added material.
