I have an opportunity to buy a Lincoln tombstone Stick welder or a Hobart Stickmate welder. Which would you choose? How will Hobart stick mate hold up over time? Anything liket the Red Lincoln buzz box? ThanksWhiteyWhitey____________________________Lincoln Pro Mig 180Clarke Mig 125Clarke Mig 95Hobart Stickmate 205*looking for a chop saw*
Reply:Well it has to be AC and DC.But i would take that money and try to buy a used Miller Dialarc. If that will not work then get the Lincoln AC/DC.Last edited by Donald Branscom; 09-22-2008 at 08:38 PM.AWS certified welding inspectorAWS certified welder
Reply:i have always used lincoln products and never once had a problem. but it's also in keeping your equipment in top shape. i keep covers on my machines all times. just make sure the fan is not covered up. keep em blowed out every so often and don't overload them.

Reply:I have the Hobart Stickmate LX AC/DC buzz box. Couldnt be happier. I use 1/8" 6011 for most everything I do. As a beginner, I love the infinite amperage control. Just IMO. I personally have never used a Lincoln tombstone but if someones been making something that long maybe theyre onto something. Just my 2 cents.
Reply:Both welders are high quality products, the Hobart Stickmate is the cheaper date version of the Miller Thunderbolt. I have used new and older T-bolts and the Lincoln and have several comments. The Lincoln ac-225 has knob troubles. Both of the ones I have used were nearly new and the adjustment knob for amperage has broken on both, needing internal work to get it figured. It is a poor design and I would think Lincoln could do much better if they cared to. It sucks, you shouldn't have to be repairing the only other external moving part besides the on off switch. My brothers Lincoln has the additional frustrating problem of the knob has to be in the exact right position or no arc at all,it can be very irritating at times. The knob is also the source of my other complaint on the Lincoln, amperage adjustment jump are 15 amps per position. This works well up to a point but sooner or later your going to find yourself limited by it, possibly with an odd size rod or an out of position weld, you'll want 5 more or less amps but you won't have that option. The new stickmate/thunderbolt machine has a nifty little crank on it's face, no problematic knob that jumps around to make contacts inside. It can be adjusted in 1 amp increments and that goes pretty far to make you feel good about your welds when it comes down to applying what you know and getting good results. The best thing is you'll never have the "no arc" problem. Infinite Adjustablity is a key feature missing in the intro level Lincoln tombstones. You can't go wrong with either, both will give many years of service if taken care of. You want an AC/DC machine as someone else allready stated, this makes a for well rounded machine that will handle a wide variety of welding tasks. It's fun to crank it up and weld thicker stuff but it's also enjoyable to have a tiny arc and get some thinner stuff put together.

Reply:blue&gray put it nicely. Both are great units, not counting any abuse either has received to differentiate them in this particular comparison. Hobart Stickmate is the same thing as a Miller Thunderbolt in a different dress.I also like the variable amperage, but the Lincoln has been getting the job done for a very long time, and you shouldn't feel bad at all if it otherwise is a better choice. I still have one myself, even though it's a fifth backup machine in the corner of the shed that never gets used.
Reply:Every gallinacean is antithetical and after both wow gold defenses constraint the different virtually 10 times in a row, both coaches said select it to the 4th orientation, I equivalent my chances. I don't opine Mississippi State could bonk scored on us if we had all nighttime nevertheless LSU is not Lose St. |
