I am wondering how to get started in welding jobs like doing shutdowns and stuff like that?I took classes at my highschool that a technical college came and taught.I got credits in this for that college, and got what I think is a certification of accomplishment in mig welding, fluxcore, and couple of the stick welding ones. This is what I want to do for a living since I got introduced to welding.I was thinking of going to the Tulsa Welding School in Jacksonville since I live like 30 min. from it.Do you think that would be a good start? Thanks for any info.
Reply:rhoden89 - First of all, welcome to the welding web forum. To answer your question, I would go ahead and get the proper welding certifications for the area you live in. Tusla is probably your best bet. Having once lived in Jacksonville for several years, I know the diversity of welding work available to a certified welder. Also you may want to consider underwater welding as a career option. Jacksonville also has a dive school that specializes in underwater welding. It is run by former U.S. Navy divers. The tutition is steep and the course is tough, but the payoff in terms of job security, salaries and world travel may make it worth your effort. Below is a link to the underwater welding school in Jax. http://www.commercialdivingacademy.com/Even though I currently live in Tennessee, my plans include returning to Jax and seeking employment with Atlantic Marine. They have good pay and benefits that I cannot find here in TN.  Good Luck and maybe I'll be working with you in the future. - Unomike
