Hi allI'm new to this group but been Machinist, Welder, fixit fellow all my life, but now I moved to the mountains, last night and this morning I was welding and the weather was cold and fogy. and my hood would fog up real bad then my glasses would fog. It's real hard to see when your hood and glasses are just glow from the arc.....I bet some of you have something that you do that will help.Scott
Reply:I fought it for years. I've had good success with using joy soap on the lenses. Your local welding supply should have an anti fog product to put on your lenses. I forget what its called but it comes in a little container the size of a Carmex jar. The trouble with rubbing stuff on your lenses is the multiple layers. Hard to get all of them wiped good enough. I've used the torch to warm things up a little before I start. That works pretty good. I bought a Speedglas hood 9 years ago and haven't had the lens fog up since. The air vent in the front keep your breathe from fogging it. A 3M half mask vents in the air vent on the hood when you have to wear a respirator. Which I do because I do a lot of junk yard welding because I don't have the talent to stay in doors and Tig weld.
Reply:That's cold man.JTMcC ; )You can hang your hood on a hook in front of the radiator of your engine drive welding machine to warm it up, some people think that helps. Of course you have to have an engine drive welding machine for this to work.Last edited by JTMcC; 11-07-2008 at 10:29 PM.
Reply:Try to consciously breathe thru your nose. The downdraft created will pull cold air across the lense helping prevent the fogging.                             MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw

Reply:if you rub dry bar soap on the surface and then wipe it off, a residue of glycerin or  something simialr will stay  and prevent the condensation..or heat the thing up and stop the condensation that way...
Reply:i made an effort to not let my hood drop all the way down. lets more air in that way. and just watched how i breathed. you might try that anti fog spray from a scuba shop. they use it on their scuba masks.

Reply:TOOTH PASTEseriously try it it has to be the green kind not the white paste. Either that or invest in a respirator that directs your breathe onto the bottom of your shield
