Newb welder here.No TIG experience.Only looking to do sheet metal (car restoration hobbyest) repair so its 16,18,20 gauge material.Nothing heavier.Looking at Miller Econotig, used Miller syncrowave 180 or Miller Syncrowave 200.The 200 looks perfect with the pulse but I would like to go cheap and do one of the other two units. For my limited application what do you guys think? Can I get away with the Econotig or a used 180?Thanks,Oldmics
Reply:Miller Maxstar 150.Small and light/ portable., welds up to 1/4" steel.  No aluminum, but hey, it works!! Runs on 110 or 220vac.And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:I compleatly overlooked the Maxstar 150.With the pedal I think you have picked a winner for my application. I have come to realise that for my applications I need two of everything for welding. One low amperage and one hi amperage machine. This way I can do a proper job on any thickness material.Thats how it worked out for my MIG selections. Thanks for the great suggestion.Oldmics
