As most of you know, I am a relative rook to welding. I have a problem though. I need a welders cap to wear under my helmet. I wear a size 8 hat and the biggest welders cap I can find is 7 7/8. I can barely wear an 8 and was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction ASAP so I can get a cap
Reply:how about a bandana?
Reply:maybe one of the new style baseball caps turned backwards.  Make sure it's made out of cotton.  Most of them have a pretty good adjustment in the headband.By newer, I mean the round head design they're using on caps these days, not like the old ones that had sort of a flat front for a logo.  (I miss the old caps, new ones feel like someone's sittin' on top of your head)"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Truckers hat is the word I believe that is used to describe what used to be a redneck farmer's staple in these parts.  I believe I have one or two of those things. I just can't wear them.  The brim even after shaping gives me fits.  As for the ball cap thing,  they can be hot and bulky when wearing helmet.  But they will work.  As for the size,  those  femnine looking flowerdy ones usually have an elastic band in them, if you like that sort of thing.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
Reply:I don't have an oversize head, but usually I wear a rag on my head instead of a welder's cap, most of the time.  I do own one welder's cap that I wear, sometimes.  I keep a huge assortment of rags, a whole drawer full, since I've been wearing them daily for several years.  They're cheap, comfortable, washing machine friendly, easily replaced and there's lots of styles to choose from.  Most of the welding caps I see in the weld shop I would not want to be seen in.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:motorcycle shops sell 'do rags' that tie on and are generally sized to fit the largest heads.  (Motorcycle riding = big head?)The only disadvantage to these is that they don't really have a brim or bill that you can pull down over your ear when welding overhead...Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector
Reply:Hey sam that cap on the right looks like the one Elmer Fudd wears when hunting that rabbit.Like desertrunner I wear a piece of cloth on my head under the helmet and it also covers the back of my neck so those nasty lil sparks don't go down there.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.

Reply:weldingsupply.com carries kromer caps sized sm, m, l, & xl. weldwarehouse.com carries comeaux caps in a size 8 and will sell singles or by the dozen. They are about 3.50 each by the dozen. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
