Hello!I am new here, so I hope that I get all this posting stuff right!I just picked up a non working mig welder, its a Weldco, Power pro 160.It doesn't do anything when plugged in and turned on, so I am currently going through the wiring, hoping its just a loose or corroded connection!I did a deal of searching for info on this welder, all I can find is that it was a Ben Pearson Tubemaster corp product! Can anyone with knowledge of this welder give me a little more info on it if possible?Maybe a little background like, if it was made by someone else, and or an aproximate date it was made and so forth. Thanks!
Reply:Well!I managed to get it buzzing, there was 3 loose wires going to the cycler "for want of a better name"but I am not getting power to the drive motor, I will chase that one down tomorrow!
Reply:Sorry smurf ,  I dont know anything about those welderskeep us informed weld it like you own it
Reply:What I have found is, this thing looks like it has a lot in common with an older Miller, say from about the mid eighties!
Reply:I have an airco that resembles a miller.  What color is your weldco? weld it like you own it
Reply:Its blue on the sides, with white lettering of the name on its sides, a big all filled in with white circle with the W inside it and then eldco after.
Reply:Well!Did some more searching and found where I can get parts for the gun for this welder, but so far thats all I have been able to find!http://www.usaweld.com/products/mig_...enpearson.html
Reply:One more find!I don't know why but this link never came up on any google searches that I did, I happened upon it on another site that I visited!I found a web site for Ben Pearson tubemaster corp!In case anyone else needs it, this is it: http://www.ben-pearson.com/index.shtml
Reply:Called Ben Pearson this morning, talked to a tech and found that they stopped making welders 20 years ago!So they no longer had anything, not even the schematics for this welder, but I was told by him that they got all their components from HTP America!Called HTP and they not only have all the parts for the gun, but also still carry parts like the relay and condensers and so forth, and are willing to help with getting it running again! They also informed me that all the parts for this machine came from Germany!I did notice this last fact, and also was noticing that all the windings in it are copper, and very well made! Now I just need to dig onto this machine further and find what all is going on in there, once I do, I will post more info!
Reply:I just realized that this thread is in the wrong forum category "SORRY"If the moderators want and can, they can move this thread to the manufactures/other forum, where it really belongs! Thanks!
Reply:Nothing like bringing a good welder back to lifeGood luck and post us some picks! weld it like you own it

Reply:Sorry I haven't loaded any pics yet!I have been down in the dumps "Touch of stomach flu"I did find some more info though! I called Ben Pearson back, and talked to the same guy, this time, he informed me that HTP had bought their welder line back in 1988!So I called HTP back, and talked to a tech this time, after asking the right questions, he told me that they do in fact have some of the owners manual pages, but only a few survived, and they where of the components, so they will help some, he sent me 2 pdf files with 4 pages each in them.I tried to put them on here, but they are too big!He also told me that there never was a wiring diagram made for this by Pearson, but, after purchasing the line, they reverse engineered it and made a welder based on this one, and tomorrow, he will email me a diagram for that one, and over the phone, he will help me figure out what is going on in there as he is very familiar with this welder! So!With any luck, this thing will be up and humming by tomorrow evening, and then I can see what it can do!I hope that all 164 of you peepers/lurkers keep your fingers crossed for me.#1. Reply:Its alive!!!Took me 5 minutes to get it going after Steve at HTP sent me the wiring diagram! The PO. had miss wired the main coil to the contactor/relay after I am going to guess he replaced the contactor/relay with a new one.It works great! Now I just need to clean it up a bit inside and out.It has 7 heat settings and a spot stitch timer, the electrode isn't hot until you squeeze the gun trigger, and it has a Euro style gun cable connector. One of the best $50.00 I have ever spent. If anyone in the future needs any of the info that I have gotten, just let me know, and I will email it to you!Oh!Here's a pic! Reply:Smurf,  I have the same welder sitting in a pile of dust in the corner of the shop. It quit working a long time  ago, but I couldent bring myself to pitch it. I would be really stoked to get it running again  as I can remember it wae a good little piece. If you find time I would appreciate an e-mail copy of the wiring [email protected]. Thanks  Mike

Reply:Hey Guy's!Since my last post, I have got this machine cleaned up, tuned up and welding like a champ!I had to replace that old work clamp, so I bought a heavy duty one for it,  tightened up a few more loose connections inside, repainted the side panels, fixed the tank cart holding chain and replaced the old gas valve regulator with a nice new gravity bubble type regulator and replaced the on/off indicator light with a nice and bright LED!I still plan on re-painting the rest, but I am going to wait till spring, when its a bit warmer! Thanks!Ken.
