As most of you know I just got a new work truck and starting to get it set up..My question is do the argon, oxygen and acetylene tanks vertical or can they be mounted on an angle or even laying down? Thanks for the help!JasonMiller 252Miller 250Miller Syncrowave 250Esab Plasma Powercut 1250HF Basic oxy/act torches
Reply:You should mount the acetylene tank vertical.  The oxygen and argon tanks can be mounted vertical or horizontal, or any angle in between.Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector

Reply:Ok, thanks for the info.. I'm assuming that Co2 needs to be vertical also?Miller 252Miller 250Miller Syncrowave 250Esab Plasma Powercut 1250HF Basic oxy/act torches
Reply:I don't think CO2 is a suspended gas like Acetylene.  It should be fine layin' down."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Acetylene is the one that HAS to be vertical for use and storage, CO2 can be other than vertical. Acetylene PropertiesAcetylene Gas informationCO2 Gas information.City of L.A. Reply:If you use the large tanks with liquid CO2 and Liquid Argon, they need to be stored upright.
Reply:My Oxy, Argon and MAPP are laying down the CO2 are 20 pounders and get stood up when I am working.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:We got a warning from the feds on the sign job about laying the acetylene on it's side in the back of the shop truck.  No ticket resulted.  But they did get us on a tag line and hard hat issue $$.  I know there is a rule of thumb for how long you have to have it upright after laying it down, but I didnt know there was a law saying you couldnt transport it that way.Last edited by Brainfarth; 02-11-2009 at 12:26 AM.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.

Reply:Here in PA, you'd better not get caught by PA DOT transporting ANY compressed gas cylinders laying down,  And, it better have the caps in place, or the Federal DOT approved safety covers.  $300 per cylinder fine, if caught.  I have seen pipeline welding rigs transporting the Oxy cylinder laying down in it's mount.  DOT doesn't seem to bother them as long as the safety cap is in place. It was a real PITA removing the gauges and screwing on the caps before moving to a new job site.  Lots of gas loss with 150 ft of OA hose also.  So I installed these.  They're supposed to be 50 state legal.  Can leave the regulators attached. Reply:http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukne...van-blast.htmlWe had a plumber in Salt Lake City lose his BMW to an air/acetylene rig a couple of years ago.  His key fob set it off, while he and his son were walking up to it at a local mall.  Thank God no one was hurt.  Car was shredded.
