should you put teflon tape on the guages of an oxygen regulator? Thanks
Reply:No tape. The fitting seat does the sealing. The threads have nothing to do with it.9-11-2001......We Will Never ForgetRetired desk jockey. Hobby weldor with a little training. Craftsman O/A---Flat, Vert, Ovhd, Horz. Miller Syncrowave 250
Reply:thanks just wondering.
Reply:Are you talking about the actual gauge threading into the regulator, or the regulator connections to the cylinder or hose?
Reply:As said, don't worry about the threads; it's the metal-to-metal connection inside the fitting.  If it leaks after being tightened down, take it apart and look for any burrs or damage to the seat.ScottMiller XMT 350 CC/CV w/gas solenoid opt.Miller S-22A wirefeederBernard 400A "Q" gunMiller Spoolmatic 30A / WC-24C-K 200A torch/gas lensWeldcraft WC-18 watercooled torchHypertherm Powermax 30Victor O/A
Reply:what would cause this; replaced low guage, turn tanks on, the low press. guage shoots to around 100 hissing sound. the t-handle is loose. what could it be? Thanks

Reply:when you say handle is loose does that mean the screw is backed out counterclockwise? If so- it sounds like the regulator should be passing nothing and is passing 100 psi of gas. regulator is broken. its okay to tape the gauges into the regulator, dont tape the regulator where it attached to the tank.
Reply:Try checking out a local pipe supply for oxygen safe teflon tape.  I work with liquid oxygen everyday and have seen the aftermath of materials that were not compatible with oxygen.  I always tape my gages jsut out of habit.2 Trailblazer 302's2 HF251-D1'sDynasty 200DXLincoln Powermig 140CHypertherm Powermax 30Airco Torches out the a$$
Reply:cryowelder is right..  in the event you want to or need to use tef-tape on an 02 threaded joint, ensure its 02 safe..  NFPA99 (cryo should know what im talking about) says the brand name/trade name "Teflon-Tape" is safe for 02 use.. but as said above... always check, double check, and then check again..   you only get one chance to get oil into 02
