I am heading to the weld store tomorrow to pick up some things to play with on my new tig, and was wondering which wire is most used, so that i can pick some up. i don't have alot to spend, so I just want to make sure to get the basics. Reply:ER70-S6, for mild steel in 1/16" and 3/32". For Aluminum, 4043, and 5356 same diameters. It will depend on the thickness of your material, and the capacity of your machine. For practice, I would pick up the 1/16" dia. in mild steel and aluminum because - You get more rod per pound, and it's easier to work with the smaller diameters.---------------------------John
