I want to hunt down and old SA 200 to restore, what year did they switch the windings from copper to copper alloy, or aluminum or whatever. I would like to find and all copper one. Also other then physical size and output what is the difference of the SA250, 300 or 400 machines ,do they all produce comparable arcs or is the SA 200 made different than the rest. Reply:I am no expert at all so take my comment with a grain of salt.I tried out several machines before buying my SA 200. The SAE 300 that I tried welded the same. Reply:Around here where I live, you can find all kinds of Hobart machines, about 2 years ago, I sold a 1972 Hobart 250 that was running and worked well, sold it without the leads for $400.00, I only had $200.00 invested! I know where I can get 2 Hobart's from one guy for $100.00 for both, "of course they both need work" but the old Lincoln machines are as scarce as hens teeth!Ken.#1. Reply:I'd answer your question but I'd just get an arguement, then the spelling gestapo would work my post over so your best bet is to go to the AWS forum and do a search, you'll find a list of parts needed to convert to an electric starter. Plus a lot of other accurate info on the Lincoln generators.JTMcC.

Reply:An Achilles heel is right!I hatted that machine, it was on its own trailer type wheel carriage, but every time you moved it, it lost its ability to start the juice in the windings, Hobart told me to zap the brushes with a 12v DC power source when this happened "which was every time" before you could use it!Mine had the straight 6 ford, 250ci I think, it would start and run perfectly just about every time, if it wasn't for that dern weak link with the generator!#1. Reply:ive got a 1963 redface that ive been looking at for years but never get around to doing anything with it. pipelinin been busy the last couple years. i know that machine has the old copper windings it welds good but you cant beat the welding performance of those new 200s. my own personal opinion. |
