Don't know if this should go here or not but I thought it was important enough to post somewhere. The moderators may move it if needed.Several months back when I was looking at new welding machines I came across Longevity ads and looked them up. I even emailed them. I'm sure this is how I got this email. If you get this email DO NOT respond to it!!! This is an old scam, I can hardly believe it is still being used, but in the words of P.T. Barnum.... Well, you've heard it before.Email Message:Hello, How are you doing, Sorry I didn't inform you about my traveling to GREECE for a program.i am in ATHENS now and am having some little difficulties here because i was robbed on my way to the hotel where my money and my bag that contains my credit cards and some other valuables was taken away.I will like you to assist me with a soft loan urgently with the sum of ($2300 ) to sort-out my hotel bills here and to get me back home as quickly as possible. I will appreciate whatever you can afford to assist me with, I'll pay you back as soon as i return, hope to hear from you soon.. Reply:Technically that's not phishing, it's (probably) just a run-of-the-mill scam.My guess is that this Kay person had her email account compromised and hijacked by a scammer who is sending this email out to everyone in her contact list hoping that one of them will try to send money, that the scammer will try to intercept.Assuming this is the case, it points to some severe cyber-security issues at A2Z Electronics. My suggestion would be to call, not email, Kay and tell her that you suspect her email account has been compromised and that she should change her password immediately.Visit Tensaiteki.com
Reply:I stand corrected. Thanks. My only thought when I got that email was "I bet I'm not the only member here that ever contacted A2Z via email".Just felt I had to get the word out just in case...Thanks,Butch W.Butch W.Lincoln 180C MIGThermalArc TA 185 - WP-20 TorchMiller 375 X-treme Plasma CutterVictor Journeyman O/A Set |
