two of the ears on the trans broke offgoing to tig weld any ideaswhat the best filler for newer trans
Reply:Ive had pretty good luck with 4043 filler on bellhousings in the past. As long as its not to oil soaked, then nothing works well.Shake and Bake
Reply:I tried to fix a Ford ZF tranny case with 4043 tig. The filler had no problem bonding to the casting, but the casting was full of carp and porosity. Good luck with it.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:when doing a repair like this I like to run a couple of low Passes over the area to be welded before even trying to fuse the two pieces. Helps burn out the crap. Then add filler and weld up.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:I've done many. The worst problem is grease/oil contamination. I preheat with O/A oxidizing flame to burn the crap out. Then weld with 4043. Sometimes, if the crack is very near the bolt hole, I insert a steel rod in the hole to keep from filling the hole with weld deposit.I also tell the customer to go easy on the torque of the bolts in the welded ears. They are no where near the strength of the original casting.Good Luck. |
