Any suggestions??This is an 87 Western Star dump and the wood needs to be replaced. The wood is sandwhiched between the dump box and the crossbeams. So to replace it, the cross beams need to be cut out or the bottom of the box needs to be cut out (unless someone else has an idea). My question is, which is the better route to go? I'm just not sure which is easy to weld back in afterwards.I'm assuming if I cut out the bottom of the box I'll need to buy new sheet metal (1/4"?) and if I cut out the cross beams I may have to buy new ones? Any thoughts would be great! Thanks Attached Images
Reply:looks like you might have your hands full. couldnt tell from pics but can you possibly take boards out from the ends and possible drive wedges between the bed and the cross members to help them slide easily. if you could it might save you some time.If you like my stuff you can find me on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/theangryanv...ngryanvilforge
Reply:you should be able to lift the sides/tail off the box. Then there should be bolts holding down the wood at the back of bed. Once the bolts are out, the wood should slide back & out. You might have to cut one out to slide the others out too.Like Nomadmad said.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build
Reply:I bet the boards are wedged in there pretty good. So my first thought may not be a good one. Maybe a circular saw, so you can get the depth of the board/boards. Cut through the ones you can get at between the cross beams and slide the other and cut again. Prying and tongue bitting is going to involved however you decide to do it. Should I say have fun or not ?
Reply:Thats a new one on me. I have never seen a wooden floor covered by steel on a dump truck of that size.
