HI,I have a lincoin Mig Pak 15 which i would like to make more portable,I'm trying to figure out how many watts a generator would have to be to run it.Do i multiply amps x volts?I am thinking of buying a 5000 watt that is used.
Reply:5000w is he absolute bare minimum, you might want to step up to the next size if you can. I believe your gonna pull around 25amps at 208v so you get right at 5200watts. Those are rough estimatesIf you cannot convince them, confuse them. Harry S Truman
Reply:Yup-20amps draw at 130amps rated output20x 240v = 4800 wattshttp://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=29000Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:Thanks,i knew i would'nt have much power to spare. It is 5000watts running 5500watt peak.I rarely use the highest setting maybe it'll be o.k.
Reply:I used to run the Millermatic 175 from my Generac 4000XL and have run the Passport and the Hypertherm from it as well. It struggles with the Passport on 110v, but on 220v, it does fine with them. All 3 machines draw about max 20 amps each on 220v. I wasn't running them at max settings.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:I don't want to start a new thread to answer a quick question. So from what i understand to run a 115v small machine i woul need at least a 2400 watt generator?

Reply:thank you,
Reply:2400 watts is really pushing the miminum limits. I wouldn't bother buying a generator less than 3500 watts if you want to run a welder from it. With a very limited amount of power available, you'll want to run a very thick, high quality extension cord, if you need to weld some distance from the generator, and keep the extension cord as short as possible. You'll also want to keep your wire feed speed up. If you run the mig starving for wire, the welder will pull more amps from the generator and make it labor under the load.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
