I've been TIG welding for over 5 years as a hobby and my machines have always had the TIG pulsing option on my PT185 but never used it. I just wanted to clarify a few things that I'm not so sure of so hopefully some people have some input. It is suggested that pulsers are good for thin aluminum, what would you consider thin?Is cosmetics a legitimate reason to use a pulser? Can an experienced welder find benefits cosmetically and structurally by learning to use a pulser?when welding aluminum without a pulser, do you find pulsing the pedal with the bead creates better welds?I've always welded without one but I'm not sold on using a pulser, I tried using it the other day and my welds looked worse than without using one. I'm always looking for tips because every day I see welders better than I am and one day I hope to get there. Here is a part I made the other day and some constructive criticism is welcomed about how I can improve my work.

Reply:Pulsing?  Isn't that the process of rapidly dipping the tungsten in the puddle several times a second?MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:As far as im concerned its most useful when fusing/welding thin material (16GA and thinner)  As for aluminum cosmetically it will make a very nice bead with practice.  You need to get the timing down and get the amps set right or it will just make things harder for you.It takes some practice to know how to set it up for different materials, but once you do it can be a very useful tool to have,Have we all gone mad?
Reply:For out of position mechanized welding, like orbital tube and pipe, pulsing is essential to counteract gravity and help with uniform penetration, and fusion.  Even on a flat position weld, pulsing helps make a more uniform weld.  Where sometimes a large puddle will wander from side to side, pulsing helps keep the toe lines of the weld very straight and uniform.
