Hi, I am new here. I have been doing classes in TIG and getting on ok. I am setting up plant at home, got a DC machine and all the rest, I think it's good kit. Went for BOC Argosheild Universal gas and I think I have made a mistake. The arc starts ok and I get a run of an inch then the arc starts to go wild and the electrode burns through quick and it blackens, The weld blackens also. I'm not dabbing the pool or anything like that. Troubleshooting guides say to increase gas flow but this doesn't help even up at 30 cuft/min. I am doing mild steel only at the moment. Any ideas, I think I should have gone for Alushield even though I am not doing Aluminium. Back at class next week but if anyone can help meantime go for it.
Reply:Pure argon will work with steel and aluminum.David Real world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Any chance you could take a look at this link and ell me waht you think I should go for?http://www.boc-gases.com/products_an...hielding_gases
Reply:Straight Argon, or Straight Argon, ie: No mixed gas, they are primarily for mig welding, read around that web site.Just my opinion, not from a book, just from the road.Howes Welding Inc.www.howesweldinginc.com
Reply:I work for what used to be BOC and Argoshield was developed as a mix gas for mig welding applications. you should be using straight argon as everyone else has stated.2 Trailblazer 302's2 HF251-D1'sDynasty 200DXLincoln Powermig 140CHypertherm Powermax 30Airco Torches out the a$$
