My uncle just gave me half a dozen unopened boxes of rods - several years supply for a hobby welder. One of the boxes is for stainless.I'm unlikely to ever want to weld stainless, so I'm wondering whether I can use them on mild steel or whether I should give them away?Scott
Reply:Which alloy is it, and what size too? Some stainless can be used for other purposes, some can't.Out of curiosity, what other types did you get, and what sized boxes?
Reply:'347 Stainless'. They have a stainless core and according to the box are suitable for most stainless applications. They're a 2.5mm rod and the box is 2.5 kilos. There are two 5 kilo boxes of Ferrocraft 61. 7018. 4mm - I won't use them often. And there are 4 x 5 kilo boxes of 6013 in various sizes. So over 30 kilos of rods. The poor bugger is moving into retirement accomodation and he's clearing out his shed. So I've now got lots of steel, a spare bench grinder and vice, loads of clamps and hand tools. Many of these were his father's - my grandfather - so it's good to have them. And my uncle is pleased they will be used.
Reply:Scott if you do not want the s/s rods i am in the market for some at the moment. I am in Sydney and could easily pick them up.
Reply:Give them away or sell them. The others will do what you want. John GaultSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases. There all here. :
Reply:Gave them away on the weekend - sorry Wiry, didn't your post till today.A mate down the road who does more welding than me gladly took them, and will naturally do any stainless welding I ever need done. |
