There is a Century 230/140 ac/dc welding machine on craigslist for $150.http://abilene.craigslist.org/tls/1167350542.htmlShe does have leads for it (though I'm not sure how long.)  What do you think of it?  I've been saving my pennies for a hobart ac/dc stickmate, but at $150, this would get me in the dc world of welding a lot faster... So, assuming it works, should I snatch it up?OLD miller M-295  (AC)Century 230/140 ac/dcVictor torchNot much else but some cheap tools.
Reply:offer  $100.00 if no leads cash, cant go wrong fer that
Reply:Sold one just like it in Feb for 225 and the guy was happy to get it.  they are a good solid welder, transformer type and easy to repair if anything goes wrong.  mine had leads, sort of standard 8-10 feet or so and was in very good shape appearance wise as well.  So for 150 or less it's a good DC welder.jbman45Century 230A AC/DCLongevity 200 Multifunction MofsetLongevity 200PI Multifunction IGBTVictor Oxy/Weld&Cut5HP 2 stage compressorTractor; tools and 40  years of collecting fine tools.
Reply:Well, talked to her husband, and we're going to meet tomorrow since we both live in the middle of nowhere (though on opposite ends of nowhere!   )  He said that he bought it a few years ago, but never got around to running 240v into his shop.  He does have leads for it, but it sounds like I'm going to have to pick up some extra; as that 10 feet doesn't get me very far.  I wish my leads weren't so ratty, or I'd use them. Thanks for all the help everyone.OLD miller M-295  (AC)Century 230/140 ac/dcVictor torchNot much else but some cheap tools.
Reply:Well, I am now the new owner of a Century 230/140 welder.  It looks brand new (other than the bird crap from the ride in the back of the truck, and the dirt dauber nests inside for being stored.)I had to take the cover off to replace the plug so I could plug it in, which of course is no big deal.  The transformer is pretty loud, and sounds funny to me, but it welds great.  I ran a few stringers with 1/8 6011, 3/32 7018ac, and some old 1/8 7018 from harbor freight that I couldn't get to run on my ac welder.  They all burned great on DCEP.  The cheap, old 7018 had the slag curling up as the weld cooled, which is unusual for me!It is not as easy to play with the amps as I had hoped, with the slider control, but at least there are numbers there I can read.  The #5 leads also feel very tiny, and are way too short; so I'll have to buy some cable here pretty soon.  In any case, I'm very happy with what my $150 bought.OLD miller M-295  (AC)Century 230/140 ac/dcVictor torchNot much else but some cheap tools.
Reply:nice find   enjoy
Reply:You may find that slider works more smoothly if you push in on it while sliding up and pull out when sliding down ( or vice versa, I can't remember which way it was, only that it was the opposite for up and down.)Good luck with it.
