Hi guys! Has anyone every used the HTP Tungsten Sharpener? Im interested in getting one but not sure its worth the money? I cant find these anywhere in England so would have to buy from a U.S site. I want to know how long the wheels will last? How many sharpens will i get? In my old job we used pedestal tungsten sharpeners, Which were very good but where i work now we just have a grinding wheel. Any info on this would be good? Thaks
Reply:I have one and use it whenever I tig. I didn't buy it from HTP, but it's the same one they sell, called the Sharpie, a little hand held die grinder with a tungsten holder built into the end of it. Pretty cool and works great, very convenient too. I got mine at Arc-Zone, who are here local for me. It was about $250 - 300, if I remember right.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:I have the sharpie and its the balls. A diamond sharpened tungsten does weld better and hold its point longer. I guess it has sharpened quite a few hundred 3/32 tungsten. I still rough them out on the grinder first if they were dipped well. Well worth the few hundred bucks. I change the tungsten once its even slightly contaminated. It makes it a LOT easier to re sharpen.David Real world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Yeah if you get enough deposit on the tung from dipping it, it won't fit into the Sharpie grinder without first knocking it down on the bench grinder.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Cool! Sounds good to me. Now i just need to find somewhere who will post to U.K, I think you guys run 110V? we are 240V here. There was are sharpener on ebay, the seller said they do 110 motors and 220, guess its the 220 i will need? It might be worth me getting a few replacement wheels too, to save on postage cost at a later date. You guys have some cool gadgets that my fellow welders havent ever heard of. If anyone has any links to a company that sells the sharpie would be good, I will send them an email to see if they can help me out. Cheers for the replys!
Reply:The Sharpie might be available in 220v version. I think I remember seeing something about that. Check it out on Arc Zone's website, or call them, they are very helpful, or call HTP 1-800-USA-WELD, they're very helpful too. www.arc-zone.comwww.htpweld.comEDIT: Here it is in 220v version-http://www.arc-zone.com/index.php?ma...oducts_id=2433Last edited by DesertRider33; 06-20-2009 at 09:31 AM.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
