I was quoted a price of $90 for a piece of steel 1/4 X 2ft X 3ft. That seems expensive to me, since guys here have been talking about buying steel for less than $.50/lb. But then, I'm new. The seller told me that plate was especially expensive--true?Edit: Sheesh. With ONE phone call I found a place a little bit further away that is half the price. I'm learning.TimLast edited by timrb; 07-14-2009 at 02:16 PM.
Reply:No only are you paying for the sheet, but you are also paying to have them cut it to your specifications.

Reply:I usually go to my steel supplier and look for drops that are the size that I need, that way I'm not paying for them to cut it.- If you can jump across it you can weld it! - anonymous old boilermaker
Reply:Like they all said buying less than a full sheet will cost you, but that's a bit high even for a cut.Tough as nails and damn near as smart
