I'm trying to piece together an exhaust system for my Camaro, but no one around here can mandrel bend 3". So I've ordered a few pieces from Summit.I ordered two 45* pieces and I can use one, but the other won't work.Show below is a 45* on 6" radius bend above a piece of my original Y-pipe.It doesn't look as sharp as a 90* bend, but it's obviously not 45*. I need a piece exactly like that. I tried to take a picture from directly above, can anyone help me?Maybe I'll just cut away that old part and patch the hole and use that piece..haha it would be ugly though and the rest of the exhaust is nice.Last edited by jetlag; 08-01-2009 at 05:10 AM.Hobart Handler 187Bainbridge bandsawMakita chop sawHarbor Freight 4.5" grinder
Reply:It looks like a 60deg, but you are better off buying a compass and measuring it yourself.Strictly a hobbiestLincoln AC225Millermatic 130Everlast 200LX...mercy to the guilty is cruelty to the innocent... Adam Smith, The Theory of Moral Sentiments, p. 170.
Reply:60 deg., no more like 30. Make a pencil trace of the outline and measure the angle. JC Whitney may have what you’re looking for.
Reply:I would venture to guess that the original piece is 75 to 80 degrees while the new piece is close to 45 but not quite. Maybe 37-40 degrees or so. I am curious to find out now. I guess I could put a protractor against the screen but that would make me an obsessive.Good luck with your project today.
Reply:okI am obsessive but the new piece measures about 38 degrees and the old piece looks to be right at 60. Plus or minus some degree of accuracy depending on the angle of the camera to the pieces.
Reply:I was going to say old was 60º and the new was 40º.. but seeing your post now, is probably more accurate...
Reply:I tried my best to be directly above the tubes.Hmm, so they market it as 45* when it's not..oops! hahAlso, it seems no one sells a 60* bend. I might just have to clean up the old piece and rip off that piece that was previously welded on..it would be cheaper Thanks for the helpHobart Handler 187Bainbridge bandsawMakita chop sawHarbor Freight 4.5" grinder
Reply:I think most exhaust turn downs/dumps are 60º.. I may be wrong but I think that they are..
Reply:I decided to use something called "tools" and use that piece instead of buying a new one. After grinding down those old welds/excess metal, I made a patch panel and it works great Hobart Handler 187Bainbridge bandsawMakita chop sawHarbor Freight 4.5" grinder
Reply:I'm surprised you even found an auto supply that sells pipe. All of the stores around here haven't sold pipe for years, except for straight pipe, and generic mufflers.Too many variations on bends and such. Too many returns when it doesn't fit.Last edited by farmersamm; 08-02-2009 at 01:55 AM.Reason: spelling"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
