I just aquired a lincoln sp 100 can't get the wire to feed and it won't establish a arc just spark a little. The fan run and the gas works anyone one got a clue what wrong, If the wire is rusty could it cause the problem, thanks
Reply:How old is the welder and the wire? If the sleeve in the lead that the wire feeds thru is wore down the wire will catch in the sleeve and not feed thru and can even back up into your welder. Also check the tension on your feed mechanism if to tight or loose it will not feed properly. Be sure your grounding clamp is securely clamped to clean metal. If the area for the grounding clamp is oily, greasy, oxidized, or good clean metal (ground clean with grinder). I have never had a problem with rusty wire but Have heard it can happen depending upon how you store the wire. I store all my wire in a sealed box with a bag of anti oxidizer.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.& 2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.
Reply:The rust on the wire comes off in the liner and helps clog the tip too. It also goes into the weld. If it's very rusty, throw it away. Not a very big loss on only an 8" spool.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:While you are at it, take off the gun, remove the tip & gas diffuser, lay the gun out straight & blow it out with compressed air. While it's apart, pull the liner & make sure there are no kinks in the liner. If there are, replace it. I get mine from HTP supply on Ebay. Fairly inexpensive & easy to replace.Standard liner should be able to handle .023-.035 wire.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build
Reply:Thanks for all the tips on the Sp 100 lincoln, the welder is around four years old, the wire is spoted with rust in places. I am using clean metal, its getting a good ground. It has a 8 in spool of wire on it, about half full, I did notice that the wire feed motor / roller doesn't turn as the trigger is squeezed, it can be turn with pliers and it does make the sound that mig make when trigger is squeezed. The wire look a lot better further down in the spool, going to try unrolling it to get to cleaner wire.
Reply:Try moving the voltage switch, make sure it is in one of the "detent" positions
Reply:Check to see that the gun trigger is contacting reliably when closed. Could be dirty, broken, worn out.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:drobber, have you figured anything out yet? My 100 is doing the same. I've clicked through the knob settings, new spool, ground clamp good to go, fan is on and running. When gun trigger is pressed, nothing happens. |
