Bar Stool Racer Project

I wanted to post photos of my first real welded production project that has actually been completed and works great!I spent about 6 weeks building this Bar Stool Racer.  I did all welding with a Lincoln Pro Mig 175 using FCAW.I would have to say the most fun on this new toy is riding wheelies down the street.Enjoy!Mike Attached Images

Reply:I'm impressed.  Are there actual races for these?  I would think that sharp cornering would be somewhat of a problem.  What size engine does it have and how fast will it go?
Reply:Believe it or not, there are actual groups of people that race these things.  I used a 6.5 HP motor.  It is very fast and you really need to hang on when in the gas.  I am still afriad to open it up.  It is estimaed to go about 50 - 60 MPH in 8 seconds from the research I have done.I did not build it to race, but to be the first one in my neighborhood to have one.  Also when I go to the drag strip I wont have to walk 5 miles a day anymore. Reply:Looks good. Can you post a site where you got your parts from. IE wheels, tires, hubs, axles, bearings, spindles, brakes and sprockets. I orderd plans already and they are not it yet. Reply:mike don't worry, it's not too much! actually my cousin and i are going to build two of these and we are going to use a briggs and stratten wazoom motor, and a wazoom shifter motor on them.   Those two motors top out at about 70 mph and we had to make some minor adjustments to it; such as lowering the stool down, and making the chassis wider so we don't have so many accidents.   we saw your picutre during a welding class one day and fell in love with the idea.  keep thinking of the good ideas.
Reply:Yes this post has me hooked now too. I ordered plans as well. I want to put  a 125cc motocross motor in it though and use a shifter as well. Should not be that hard to fabricate a shifter rod assembly so that I can operate it with my left foot. I would then need to make a pedal for the breaks in the rear. There is a cycle salvage place near me and getting a whole running KX 125 would be best cause I can use most of the control parts from it.  T.J.www.tjsperformance.com
Reply:Good looking BSR! I built one too, but someone just had to have it, so I sold it. Here is a link to the buildup. I didnt buy any plans, so it was just trial and error. It was a blast to ride.
