May be an oxymoron, but I was wondering, if anyone here has been a Union pipe welder, if job security is really bad for Union pipeline welding.I heard 3 and 1/2 month wait for another job. Is that the norm? Also, is working 48 weeks a year typical for Union pipeline welders?Just want to get this out.
Reply:Maybe I am confused here because I thought, as a pipeline welder, you work continuously for whatever weeks you want. Like work for 10 months, take 2 months off. This is the quote I got from a local 798er.You will not be able to depend on 798 providing you with regular work
Reply:Okay, maybe I have made myself cleared yet.Can pipeline welders or any welders, regardless of experience, in the Union work 52 weeks a year? And what's the average time a Union welder has been on the "Out of Work" list a year? 2 weeks or something like that?Last edited by nfl; 11-11-2009 at 04:09 AM.
Reply:Not to be annoying but I haven't been in the welding industry yet.I keep hearing that welder don't work 52 weeks a year because nobody want to pay them that much. THey make too much money anyway. Is this true or nott what I just heard? How long do pipeline welders usually stay on the out-of-work list a year? And how many full weeks do they work a year? This is what I'm trying to say.
Reply:If JT sees this you will get some answers. He's probably out of town on a pipeline job right now.Last edited by lars66; 11-12-2009 at 05:57 PM.
Reply:I hire out of the 751 in Anchorage AK, I would say it depends a lot on the skills and ability of the individual. If you are on time work hard and don't screw up much you are going to get work.Like most things worth having it takes effort on your part dedication to your craft and a willingness to learn.
Reply:Okay thanks guy. Hopefully I can hear from JT. |
