Just joined and wanted to say hi to everyone and hope to gain ideas and give ideas on this forum. Im 43 and love to fabricate metal stuff . I operate my lawncare business going into my 12th year. I love looking for and then costomizing equipment to suit my needs. When not working I dirt bike (since the age of 6) Jeep and play with our speed boat. I mostly use my 220 Lincoln stick for most welding. I however have an old mig welder, gas torch, large drill press and even an old Unimat lathe my dad handed to me. When I get a chance to take pictures of some of my projects, Ill post them. 1grnlwn. I love your projects. the fertilizer spreader carrier looks good if you want to leave trailer at home and have bed full of supplies. How does ramps on snow blower hauler work. Can you post more pics? I have this home made grease gun holder on my trailer Ill post pictures soon that you may like (comes in handy for me).Well I dont want to make a super long thread here so Ill look forward to chatting with everyone

Reply:PJS I was using an old Green Machine,it still runs , its 22 years old. The only problem with it is the carberator(can't get another one its old). My neighbor back then worked for the City of Atlanta and recommended the Green Machine. He said it was the only one the city workers couldn't tear up. Its hard for my wife to start it,so she makes me use it. The Shindaiwa was what all the people around here were recommending(one guy Red Max). I buy heavy duty stuff because I do abuse it sometimes, but it has to be easy to start for my wife to use it. She had to have an edger,so I bought her a Stihl and a Stihl leaf blower. She uses the blower but rarely uses the edger. The Stihl stuff is pretty easy to start(all of the machines are similiar). The Shindaiwa stuff is it easy to start? and is it easy to get any parts for it ? One other question is the cutter head well designed? DavidLast edited by echo8287; 01-25-2004 at 12:09 AM.David
Reply:Echo, The Shindaiwa stuff is well designed, easy to use but you will have to locate a dealer in your area for parts supply. I think you will be happy with shins. Ive been using them a year or two and Im quite happy so far. Cant go wrong with them. Only have one problem ever so far with one of the trimmers, it seems somehow the fuel line keeps rupturing rite where it connects to carb (same spot every time). I think one of my guys bangs it on something. It looks like impact cause so I dont blame on manufacture. Happend three times last season, No big deal to repair. Other than that, never been in shop and I own 4 Shindaiwa trimmers, oldest is two, going on three years old. I think they hold up better than the Echos I used for last 7 years before.
Reply:PJS have you ever used one of those chainsaw tree trimmer things. They look like they are on a 10 or 12 foot pole with a weed eater motor on them? I have a pretty good size area to trim limbs 3 acres don't know if I really need one just wondered how well they work? Thanks for all the replys,DavidDavid
Reply:Actually no I havent. Thought about getting one a couple times but I dont have enough limb work to justify the high price in getting one yet. Bet there handy though.
Reply:Hey Echo, I bought one of those long-pole chainsaw thingies to trim trees and I promptly took it back. For one thing, it wouldn't go over 10 ft., which would make it kinda' useless unless I could get one of the local 7 ft Memphis Grizzlies players to use it for me.But even at only 10 ft, with the itty-bitty chitty-chitty bang-bang motor as light as it is, the moments are much too high. Talk about carpal tunnel in your wrists, shoulders and hands! Use that baby for a few minutes at full extension, and you probably won't even be able to get a firm grip on your beer for a few days.I went back to my manual one. It reaches at lot higher and is quieter. Plus, my wife will use it on occasion and she was afraid of the chainsaw version.
Reply:welcome aboard pj, did you ever hear of jessie janisch. He too has been bike racing from dirt to asphalt, his dad just built a bike and I was the one to weld bike together. After welding he had it nickel plated, its a beauty although I don't know what size bike it is, if I was ti guess he's probably got a dozen bikes. The kid just turned 16 and everyone wants him riding for them like honda etc.. He is that good so thought maybe youv'e heard of him.J P Streets Welding LLC
Reply:Thanks Olpilot for that heads up. Maybe thats something I don't need, Thanks for the reply. DavidDavid
Reply:Thanks for the welcome Jerry. Havent heard of jessie janisch though. I used you be into dirt bike big time when I was a lot younger. Got 4 kids and wife now so I dont get to ride as often. Still have a dirt bike though. Its a Honda XR 250, 4 stroker. Honda's are built pritty tough. Kids have a little bike and two seater go cart. We get out and ride a few times a year. Cant afford to break a leg or neck. Scares me to think of all the stuff I used to do when I was young and stupid OOHH the memories!!!!
Reply:You'll never be able to destroy those XRs!!! Those things will last as long as the owner. Welcome aboard from another semi-newbie...I love riding too. I currently have a KDX220 but I'm beating the crap out of it and it's gettin way to slow anymore.. I'm looking into going back to thumpers, maybe a WR450F or a used KTM 525 if i could find one...KTM's are soooooooo nice, the price to pay for that much nice sucks though!Lean mean TIG weldin' machineSquarewave 175
Reply:Hi Everyone,I haven't welded in years, I live in a Veteran's Home now, but I went through Lincoln Welding School in Cleveland, Ohio in 1979 for stick.I'm in a bike club at the home now and we are thinking of modifying a landscaping trailer to haul four electric scooters and 20 bikes. Would love to hear your ideas. Nice to meet you all DougRoad Soldiers Cycling ClubScooter and Wheelchair Owner's Grouphttp://www.roadsoldiers.com/
Reply:I've got one of the chainsaw attachments for my homelite weedwacker and use it alot. I don't know what brand the other guys use, but mine has pole sections to add or subtract. It comes as 12' length max in stock configuration, but there are sections you can add on if the need arises later. I also have the tiller attachment and was impressed. Its not to be used for the whole yard, but its nice for mom to use in her garden. Hope this helps. |
