Explanation of DIN Ratings?

HiCould someone in the know explain the meaning of the numbers in DIN ratings on A/D helmets? For example, this is mine: 4/ 9-13.9-13 is the variable part. But what's the digit 4 mean? I don't need to know, but am curious.Thanks,Mark.

Reply:Don’t know if anyone’s ever tried it. Set your hood to the darkest setting and look at the sun, you’ll be able to see the spots on the sun.
