Any info. will be appreciated. Thanks Jim
Reply:Clean it good like other materials. I tig'd a brass irrigation fitting that was under a lot of pressure. Worked great.Granthttp://jackalopefab.com/MM210Synchrowave 200DXMiller XMT350 w/60series feederMiller Bobcat 250 with SGA 100 and spoolgunHTP PlasmaFull Machine shop with everything
Reply:Thanks jack. Been to Branson to a Trike show last June. Trailer axel snapped , called a shop in Forsyth called Sonnys Welding, said bring it over weld it yourself. Then wifes throttle cable end comes of in Hollister Mo. go into a small shop there, the guy says there is the torch do it yourself, I says how much he says $5.00I would have gladly paid 20.Nice folks in Mo. Will try the tig tommorow. Jim
Reply:Not always that lucky. Depends a lot on where you are! Glad you had a good experience in the show me state!Your brass should be pretty straight forward. When I did mine, I tried to weld without filler first. I found the weld cracked. Then, I only had gas filler rod so I removed all of the flux and cleaned the rod with acetone thoroughly. Made for an interesting "light show" at the arc, but it turned out just fine.Granthttp://jackalopefab.com/MM210Synchrowave 200DXMiller XMT350 w/60series feederMiller Bobcat 250 with SGA 100 and spoolgunHTP PlasmaFull Machine shop with everything
Reply:Phosphorus Bronze is the easiest tu use but will not give you a color match.
Reply:Thanks guys will use brazing rod, just wirewheel off the flux or maby cut up some scrap pipe into thin strips 1/8 or so, should give a close match, will post pic when I bend the pipe. thanx again Jim
Reply:GTAW on brass will result in de-zincification where the zinc will boil off due to melting. This also accours with OFW where things get too hot. De-zincification is characterised by porosity and fuming during welding of brass. It would be possible to tig braze brass using copper lithium wires though, provided care is taken not to melt the brass.Good luck |
