Hello,   I was wondering if there is anyway I could add a wire feeder or a mig gun on an Airco 225 amp welder? I attached a picture of the welder. Thanks for any info.Timhttp://weldingweb.com/attachment.php...1&d=1260378131Last edited by tzhauling; 12-10-2009 at 09:02 PM.
Reply:No! The wrong application, WRONG power supply
Reply:Hello tzhauling, as Transit put it, you cannot fit this welder with a wirefeeder. For starters, it is an AC machine, this in itself makes it a non-workable application. Wirefeeders can generally be set-up for DC/CV applications preferrably and DC/CC machines can be set-up with wirefeeders providing you have a voltage-sensing type feeder. That's the simple description, if you do some reading on basic electrical theory related to wirefeed welding you will get a more complete picture of why it is this way. Miller, Lincoln, Esab, and likely a number of other sources on the internet have a host of educational information that is very well thought out to explain these basics for you. So if you have a little bit of time try getting onto their sites and checking out what they have for you to read. Best regards, Allanaevald
Reply:I kind of thought that but wanted to check. I have a mig it broke in the middle of a project and I bought this unit because it was cheap and would work to finish the project. I just got to thinking maybe there was a way, but I didn't think so.Thanks for the info.
Reply:www.readywelder.com  might work,
Reply:That is one way out. What will it take to get your mig back into working condition?
Reply:Hello tapwelder, I looked at the link that you supplied for the ready welder. From what I could determine, they can be used with stick welders, yet, the AC side of the power requirement is referring to powering the feed system on the gun and the DC current requirement is still there for the actual welding. I understand that these units could be very versatile, yet I haven't personally ever used one. Do you know how well they work? I am curious, as I have a son who does plenty of off-roading and has talked about picking one of these up to support his adventures. I'm just not sure whether they are "truly" a viable choice for the investment. Best regards and thanks, Allanaevald
