Was at the local Tool Depot store today and they had a big display of various small power tools by Proxxon. I've not heard of them before. I was very interested in this little mini long neck angle grinder that takes little ~2" wheels, would be very handy with a flap disc for cleaning up aluminum jobs. Anyone know anything about these Proxxon tools?www.proxxon.com/usangle grinder linkLast edited by DesertRider33; 12-14-2009 at 10:32 PM.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:I have a few Proxxon tools. They are a medium quality product. I don't have the grinder you are talking about.

Reply:The store had it for $148, same as the Amazon price. Store is in Encinitas (San Diego county).MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:I thought about buying one of those a few years ago but the low amp draw spooked me. It didn't seem like it would be powerful enough for what I wanted. I wanted it to grind in between pickets on the high end railings. That long neck is what had my interest. My F-i-L have a couple little Proxxon sanders he uses making remote control planes and he says they are good quality tools for what he does.If you get one let us know what you think.
Reply:That is a cool design but for $148????? Ouch!!! You could buy like maybe four HF electric die grinders for that. No angle on them but with a barrel sander or maybe a 3"inch roloc you can get in some of those places. I`m a cheap skate on some stuff though ... Thats why I rock a thermal arc instead of a miller...It probably is worth it if it is good ....I think I`d pay that for Metabo quality.
Reply:BrianNye, I chose the TA185 over the Dynasty 200 too. I love the TA and it was at least a Grand less than the Dynasty. Using it for 4 years now I think, no problems with it at all. Bob, it was that long neck and small wheel size and angle head that got my attention too. I have a heavy duty Milwaukee straight die grinder, but it cant get into alot of areas like that small angle head grinder would. Take off the gaurd and it should be able to reach in just about anywhere. I thought about grinding between pickets with it too but yeah I don't know if it would really have the b@lls for that. I think it would be great for aluminum though.Yeah the price seems high for what it is, but then again, there isn't anything else I've seen that offers the same combination of small size, long neck and angled head that this one does. I guess they have the freedom to charge whatever they want for it, untill another company comes out with their own version of it. I don't mind paying the price, if it's a quality built tool with good warranty service and powerful enough to do the job. Maybe next time I'm down there I'll ask the tool store if I can try it out before buying.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:I have a little snap on pneumatic right angle grinder that takes rol-loc disks. I think i used it maybe 10 times through the years on shop projects. i use it way more on the truck than i do on metal fab.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
