Whats your Ideal engine drive?

Just out of curiousity, what would be your 100% ideal, do everything you want, engine drive welder?Mine.. cross breed cat D315 twin arc X sam 400 X Vantage 500 (or pipe pro)My requirements would be, 24"x6' long, height not an issue..1800-2400 lbs, 70-75 horsepower, 1-2 g/h economy.  Idle amperage 150, full load 550-600.  3000 watts AC @ idle, 10000 watts AC @ full rpm, single phase with 30 amp twistlocks on 220 side, two duplexs on the 110..  CC/CV, remote field control, 3-4 gallon oil pan, 25 gallon fuel tank.  Oil pan heater, battery heater, block heater.  Ether injector, oil bath air cleaner, spin on water seperator, primary and secondary fuel filters, oil filter, commonly used on other heavy equipment or trucks.  Propane fired block heater as an option.  Enclosure panels arent hinged, rather slide fore and aft.  Weather front, reversible fan or clutch fan with a pusher.  Battery jump posts. Caterpillar keyed disconnects and switches.  Power plant a 2-71 Detroit, D315 Cat electric start with glowplugs and turboed, maybe, and I mean maybe, an isuzu four cylinder.  The idle/full rpm feature like the pipepro would be convienent, but not required.  Might be a problem with the low rpm detroit or cat.  No PC boards or other flimsy plastic crap that either make it go, or make it look better.  Straight up badass DC welder, copper windings from the old school days and industrial hardware used throughout, easily troubleshot and replaced pieces from the heavy equipment suppliers or industrial suppliers...Last edited by cablecat; 12-15-2009 at 03:56 PM.

Reply:SO far its been my vantage 500.   as cool as an AIR vantage 500 would be they look like a NIGHTMARE to work on.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
