wondering what a 1/4" piece of 4x3 piece of steel will run me

wanting to build a light duty welding table, using quarter inch plate, about four by three feet.  I've never gotten thick plate in such a large size before, so i'm wondering about how much you think that would cost from an average steel supplier.
Reply:Hello thefluxcorekid, I'm guessing here, but the size of piece that you are listing will weigh approx. #150, @ new price possibly $60 or so depending on the price of steel in your area. You might see if there are any surplus steel outfits around, as they might sell it considerably cheaper, even a possibility that a local steel scrap yard might have some remnants that they would sell you for 1/2 of new price. Reply:You might try a small piece of scrap metal in that approximate size. I bought a scrap 22"x 48" x 3/8" thick for $55 in the Kansas City area. SteveJunkYard Tools .com

Reply:Lot of nice ideas on that table Steve. I like the powerstrip and the peg board for holding misc items. Add a nice large drawer tool box or fileing cabinet and you are all set..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear.
