Hello all,I got into welding about 3 years ago, (I'm 18 now) this is my senior year at high school. I've been looking for welding schools near Ohio, and have picked out a school in Michigan: Ferris State University. http://catalog.ferris.edu/programs/255/ Have any of you gone to a welding school like this, or can you recommend me something different?
Reply:Ok well there are about 5 or 6 required courses in that program that you don't need if your wanting to just learn how to weld but if you want the degree then they are needed. If you want to cover all aspects of welding from SMAW to MIG to TIG / GTAW to include structural and maritime welding then I would consider http://www.auto.edu where I'm going that covers all of this and gives you the option for the associates degree and a completion time of one year. There are other schools to look at as well but if its important to stay near home then go with what you have chosen.
Reply:Thank you Mopar, I'll look at the school with my dad later tonight.Last edited by llamafur; 12-29-2009 at 02:59 PM.
Reply:If you are looking for a welding school in the Ohio area, why not go to Hobart?
Reply:Does Hobart offer a degree?
Reply:no, they do offer certifications though.http://www.welding.org
Reply:llamafur, I went to Hobart in Troy Ohio for my weldinmg inspector certification. One of my class mates went through the complete welding program there. Yes you do get certifications through Hobart and I do believe they are an afilliated AWS teaching facility which means you will graduate with an AWS certification which some companies will honor. The potential employer does recognize that you were instructed properly in welding and might give you a test for their process, however your employment chances increase with certifications. Wish you the best of Luck in your welding and keep your rods dry and run them hot to maximize penetration.MarkWeldor/ Certified Inspector |
